WHAT'S NEW

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between OTO Melara and Genting Etika Sdn Bhd (GESB) at Double Tree Hotel on the 21st April, 2011. OTO Melara agreed to transfer technology through the training of GESB staff, providing assistance to allow GESB to become capable of supplying its customers with competent services in the maintenance and after sales support for OTO Melara equipment.

Similar MOU was also signed between GESB and SELEX Galileo S.p.A . for its Electro Optical Products and Infrared Technologies.

Genting Etika's construction launching ceremony was graced by Dr. Kogila Balakrishnan, the Undersecretary for Defence Industry Division, Ministry of Defence on the 5th April, 2011

SPOTLIGHT

Genting Etika Sdn Bhd (GESB) is scheduled to officially inaugurate its new workshop and office building at the following location:

Lot 11269, Jalan Lumut-Ipoh (opposite the entrance to Venice of Perak), Seri Manjung, Perak. ( GPS coordinate: + 4° 12' 38.70",      +100° 38' 42.53")

The premise is designed to act as the Authorised Service Centre for OTO MELARA S.P.A., the Italian manufacturer of military armament, in Malaysia. The collaboration between OTO MELARA and GESB provides the exclusive rights to the latter to carry-out maintenance, repair and overhaul of all OTO MELARA guns that are in service with the Malaysian Armed Forces and other Government security agencies, especially those installed onboard the Royal Malaysian Navy vessels. The collaboration between the two companies is in pursuant of the Malaysian government’s policy of developing local defence industries by encouraging International Defence Manufacturers forming partnership with local companies through the Malaysian Industrial Partner (MIP) programme. With such initiative by small and medium industries, it is envisaged that local companies would benefit in terms of enhancing their technical expertise in the state-of-the-art of defence equipment. Ultimately, such endeavour would reduce Malaysia’s total reliance on foreign equipment manufacturers, especially for after sales services, as more and more local companies are equipped with the technical know-how and the intrinsic knowledge on defence equipment.

The Inauguration Ceremony is scheduled on the 26th April 2013 at the above address at 11.00 am. The ceremony shall be graced by Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar, Chief of the Royal Malaysian Navy.
